Regardless of how intelligent you are, effective study skills are essential for academic success. Many students attending Sturgis wrestle with concerns surrounding effective time management, organizational, reading, writing and note taking skills. Students who put in the time and effort necessary to master these skills generally prove successful in the IB Programme and beyond.
Have you heard of the Cornell system for taking notes or the SQ3R approach to reading textbooks? There are a number of websites dedicated to helping students improve study skills. Sites we recommend include: Virginia Tech, College Board, Study Guides and Strategies. It is important to remember that there is no "quick fix." Developing the study skills necessary for success takes a combination of self awareness, a willingness to explore new techniques, and practice.
